The leading actress race is one of those categories that is often easy to predict a while beforehand. This year is no exception, with four standout performances and the fifth dominating the film season since Cannes. However, each of the five nominees bring something different to the Oscars, from the 49 year age gap to breadth and range of the nominated performances.
Two of this year’s nominees are debutantes, while two have previously won the award, and another celebrates her second nomination. Each deserves their place, with this category one of the few lucky ones not be challenged by the #OscarsSoWhite debate.
